On 27/7, a representative from the Department of Construction's Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Division reported a leak in a 400 mm diameter water pipe belonging to the Hanoi Water Supply Company. The water pressure eroded the gravel and stone dust mixture, creating the sinkhole.
For almost two weeks, the Hanoi Water Supply Company suspected a leak but couldn't pinpoint the location until the sinkhole appeared. They immediately repaired the pipe, filled the hole, and resurfaced the road.

Around 9 p.m. on 26/7, a man riding a Honda SH motorbike was traveling on Truong Chinh street towards Nga Tu So in the former Dong Da district. As he approached the Ton That Tung - Truong Chinh intersection, his front wheel fell into a deep hole. He was thrown from his bike and sustained minor scratches.
Over an hour later, the motorbike was retrieved, revealing a bell-shaped hole approximately one meter deep and one meter in diameter. The hole was dry.
