Long Thanh airport access roads take shape

After over two years of construction, the T1 and T2 roads connecting to Long Thanh International Airport are taking shape. The T1 route is set to open for National Day on 2/9.

The T1 and T2 road project, launched in July 2023, connects Long Thanh International Airport with National Highway 51 and the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway. The project has a total value of over 2,630 billion VND.

While the initial contract set completion for the end of 2025, the investor and contractors expedited the project to open the T1 route in time for the upcoming National Day celebrations.

The T2 route is over 80% complete, with the cement-concrete reinforcement largely finished. Many sections of the T1 road, including lighting, railings, and landscaping, are nearing completion after over two years of work. The project is expected to be completed three months ahead of schedule.

Once operational, the T1 route will allow vehicles to travel from Long Thanh International Airport to the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, provincial roads 25B and 25C, and the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3.

Meanwhile, construction continues at Long Thanh International Airport on the terminal, runway, air traffic control tower, aircraft parking areas, and fuel supply facilities, aiming for completion of the first phase by the end of the year. In this phase, the airport will handle 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo annually.

The 5,000-hectare Long Thanh International Airport project has a projected total investment of approximately 336,630 billion VND. Phase two, scheduled for completion in 2035, will add a passenger terminal and a runway, increasing capacity to 50 million passengers and 1.5 million tons of cargo annually. The final phase, targeted for completion between 2030 and 2040, will enable the airport to handle 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo each year.

Upon completion, the T1 and T2 roads will connect Long Thanh International Airport with existing roads to Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and other southern provinces. T1 will also serve as the main route for transporting machinery and equipment for future construction phases of the airport.
