This information was detailed by Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) in its 20/7 report on project progress and preparations for trial operation and eventual commissioning of Long Thanh airport.
According to ACV, component project three, which includes essential airport facilities, has reached nearly 78% of its contractual progress, with major construction and installation packages at almost 70%. While the site maintains an average of 7,170 direct workers, an additional 1,500-2,000 personnel are still needed as the project enters its critical final phase.
The labor shortfall is particularly acute in the passenger terminal, internal road packages, and various finishing works. ACV has instructed contractors to boost their workforce, aiming for nearly 9,000 direct workers. They also need to add indirect personnel to expedite construction, equipment installation, acceptance procedures, and documentation.

For the passenger terminal, considered the "heart" of Long Thanh airport, construction is over 77% complete. Contractors are currently engaged in wall construction and plastering, waterproofing, painting, tiling, and installing ceilings, partitions, and interior fittings, as well as landscaping.
This component is expected to be completed in September for trial operations, with the airport aiming to commence full operations from 1/12.
Beyond the labor shortage, the rainy season significantly impacts progress, particularly for outdoor works. ACV noted that the 2025 rainy season caused delays of two to four months for certain tasks.
To mitigate these impacts, the investor has instructed contractors to organize appropriate schedules, prioritize indoor construction during heavy rainfall, and proactively manage materials and personnel. Drainage systems, catch basins, and backup pumps must also be strategically placed in construction zones, with work plans adjusted according to weather conditions.
The electricity and water supply systems, crucial for both construction and airport operations, are nearing completion. ACV is collaborating with Dong Nai Water Supply Joint Stock Company to connect and deliver water to various user units. Earlier, the electrical system from the 110 kV substation was successfully energized at the airport's receiving station.

Long Thanh airport spans approximately 5,000 hectares, with a total investment nearing 16 billion USD. Phase one is designed to handle 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo annually. It is expected to commence operations by the end of this year, aiming to alleviate pressure on Tan Son Nhat airport and stimulate regional development.
Under the operational division plan proposed by ACV, Long Thanh will manage all international routes exceeding 1,000 km, non-scheduled international flights, and new routes that Tan Son Nhat cannot accommodate. For domestic services, Vietnamese airlines will have the flexibility to choose to operate from Long Thanh based on their needs.
