Man drowns saving two female students in Giao Thuy

Nguyen Trong Khai, 67, was posthumously honored by Giao Thuy commune authorities for his brave act of rescuing two 14-year-old girls from drowning, ultimately sacrificing his own life.

On 10/10, around 3:20 p.m., two 14-year-old female students, Nguyen Tran Thuy Linh and Do Bao Han from Giao Hung commune, accidentally fell into a drainage river near Phan clan sluice gate in Hoanh Dong village, Giao Thuy commune, while riding their bikes.

Seeing the girls in distress, Nguyen Trong Khai, a 67-year-old local resident, immediately jumped into the water to help.

Other residents soon arrived to assist, helping to bring all three ashore. While the two students were successfully rescued, Khai passed away.

On 11/10, Tran Hoai Thanh, chairman of Giao Thuy commune people's committee, along with representatives of local organizations, visited Khai's family in Hoanh Nhi village to offer condolences. During the visit, commune leaders presented a posthumous certificate of commendation from the chairman of Giao Thuy commune people's committee, recognizing Khai's selfless act.

According to local authorities, Khai was a retired official from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the former Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province. Giao Thuy commune leaders praised Khai's action as a shining example of courage, compassion, and readiness to help those in distress.
