Lieutenant General Le Ngoc Hai, Commander of Military Region 5, reported on the unit's achievements, affirming its location as a particularly important strategic area. Over more than 80 years, generations of cadres and soldiers have achieved many glorious victories, including those at Ba Gia, Nui Thanh, Van Tuong, Dong Duong, and Doi Tranh - Quang Thanh, contributing to the Spring 1975 victory.
In peacetime, the unit has continued to play a core role in national defense, fulfilling international duties, and maintaining political stability in the region. The Military Region's armed forces have also actively led efforts in disaster prevention, search and rescue, and assisting people in stabilizing their lives.
Recognizing these exceptional achievements, on 13/2/2026, the President signed a decision to bestow the "hero of the people's armed forces" title upon Military Region 5.
In his directive speech, General Secretary and President To Lam praised the significant achievements of Military Region 5. He emphasized that its cadres and soldiers have always demonstrated absolute loyalty to the Party, the Nation, and the People, overcoming all difficulties to fulfill their duties.
In the new context, the General Secretary and President instructed Military Region 5 to continue effectively implementing resolutions on national defense strategy. The unit should actively assess the situation, provide timely advice, and focus on building forces to be "lean, compact, and strong."
The General Secretary and President emphasized that Military Region 5 must coordinate closely with local authorities to establish a robust defense area, integrating economic development with national defense consolidation, and focusing on building the "people's heart posture" (a strong bond of trust and support between the military and the populace).
General Secretary and President To Lam expressed confidence that with the newly received prestigious title, Military Region 5 will continue its efforts to excellently fulfill all assigned tasks, contributing to the firm defense of the Nation in the new era.
Earlier this morning, General Secretary and President To Lam, along with his working delegation, offered incense in remembrance of President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap. They also planted a commemorative tree at the Ho Chi Minh Museum – Military Region 5 Branch and the Museum of Zone 5. The General Secretary and President penned an entry in Military Region 5's traditional golden book.
