Tourist bus plunges 100 meters into ravine, two dead

A bus carrying tourists from Hanoi to a hot spring in Son La plunged into a ravine on an inter-commune road, killing two and injuring six.

Around 10:30 on 26/4, a 29-seat passenger bus, driven by a 41-year-old man and carrying 24 people, veered off the inter-village road Nien - Na Bai in Van Ho commune, Son La, plunging approximately 100 meters into a ravine. The group was traveling from Kim Lien ward, Hanoi, to a hot spring in Son La.

Local authorities reported that one person died at the scene, and another succumbed to severe injuries at a medical facility. Six others sustained injuries and were transported to Mai Chau General Hospital, Phu Tho province, for emergency treatment.

At the scene, the bus lay sideways on the hillside, near a water ditch. Local residents quickly broke the windows to extract the victims. The weather was clear at the time of the accident, with no rain reported.

Traffic police, fire and rescue police, and local police swiftly arrived to organize rescue efforts and manage traffic flow at the accident site.

Son La Provincial Police initially determined the cause was the driver's unfamiliarity with the steep, winding mountain road, which features many sharp turns, leading to a loss of vehicle control.
