Nearly 220 km of expressway through the Central and Central Highlands regions to open from 29/4

Three expressway sections, nearly 220 km long, passing through Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, and Dak Lak, will open from 11:30 on 29/4, continuously connecting the South Central Coast and Central Highlands regions.

On 27/4, Mr. Cao Viet Hung, Deputy Director of Project Management Board 2 (Ministry of Construction), announced that authorities in Quang Ngai and Gia Lai had been informed about the plan to open the entire Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway.

According to the investor, the main route and its interchanges, except for the Duc Pho interchange, have passed inspection and are ready for operation. The project spans 88 km, with a total investment exceeding 20,470 billion dong, connecting the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway with the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon route.

During the initial phase, contractors will complete remaining items including three eastern tunnel tubes, the Duc Pho interchange, rest stops, weigh stations, automatic toll collection systems, and local service roads.

Concurrently, the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon project, spanning 70 km with an investment of 12,400 billion dong, and a 61,7 km section of the Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh route, extending to the Cu Mong tunnel entrance, will also open.

Road Management Region III advises drivers to observe road signs and maintain a safe distance when traveling on the new routes. In their initial phase, the three expressway sections feature 4 lanes, with a maximum speed of 90 km/h. They do not yet have emergency stopping lanes, only designated technical stops along the route.

The Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon, Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon, and Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh expressways are part of the North-South Expressway Eastern Section, 2021-2025 phase. Construction began in early 2023, with a total investment of tens of thousands of billions of dong.

According to plans by the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction), these projects were expected to be largely completed by 2025. However, some sections faced delays in opening due to land acquisition issues, material shortages, and auxiliary component challenges.

Once operational, these routes will continuously connect with the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway and other southern sections, forming a continuous expressway axis through the Central region. This will help alleviate congestion on National Highway 1 and reduce travel times.
