Ministry of Finance official dies at ministry headquarters

On the evening of 25/7, the Ministry of Finance announced that an accident occurred earlier that day at the ministry, resulting in the death of Phan Duc Dung, a department head.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident. The ministry will release an official statement upon the investigation’s conclusion.

Mr. Dung, 54, was head of the Department of National Defense, Security, and Special Programs (Department I) at the Ministry of Finance.

Prior to this role, Mr. Dung served as head of the Department of National Defense and Security at the Ministry of Planning and Investment starting in December 2023. Following the merger of the Ministry of Planning and Investment with the Ministry of Finance, he assumed his most recent position at Department I of the Ministry of Finance.

Department I advises and assists the Minister of Finance in managing state finances and budgets; socio-economic development strategies, planning, and investment development within the domains of national defense, security, social order, and safety; and operations of party agencies and other special projects assigned by the Minister.

The department's purview includes the Ministry of National Defense (including the Government Cipher Committee), the Ministry of Public Security, the Party Central Committee Office, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and other agencies as designated by the Minister of Finance.
