Missing male student found in Tam Dao

After more than 37 hours without contact while climbing Tam Dao mountain, the 19-year-old male student has been found; authorities quickly provided first aid and moved him out of the dangerous area.

A 19-year-old student, missing for over 37 hours in the Tam Dao mountains, has been found. At 7:15 AM on 21/4, search team 8 located Nguyen Tuan Anh, a student from Dai Nam University, in the Tam Dao mountain forest area. He was found conscious but exhausted, sitting by a stream at an altitude of approximately 600 m.

Tuan Anh's family lost contact with him around 6:00 PM on 19/4 while he was climbing mountains with friends in Vinh Ninh village, Dao Tru commune (Tam Dao, formerly Vinh Phuc). That same night, local authorities mobilized over 100 people, including police, military personnel, medical staff, and residents. They formed eight search teams and used thermal camera-equipped drones to conduct a wide-area search in the complex mountainous terrain.

According to Duc Thinh, 21, who was part of the group, there were initially two climbing groups, one with two people and another with five. They shared one guide, forming a group of seven. During their journey, they encountered two additional independent climbers, including Tuan Anh, and invited them to join.

The group started around 6:00 AM on 19/4, reaching the summit at approximately 1:40 PM. They began their descent at 2:00 PM. Due to their experience, the group of five went ahead, while the three remaining individuals, including the guide, followed behind. During the descent, a member of the trailing group became separated near a dry stream.

The Tam Dao area features steep terrain, numerous intertwining trails, dense forests, and frequent fog, which can easily cause disorientation, especially for those unfamiliar with the area or who separate from their group.
