Around 11:00 AM, at the railway crossing where the tracks intersect provincial road 623C in Tho Phong commune, Le Quang Tuan (40, residing in Son Tinh commune) drove his motorcycle from east to west. Despite the barrier being lowered and signal lights flashing, he collided with the barrier arm and fell near the tracks.
Two railway staff members swiftly pulled the motorcycle away and adjusted the barrier arm to ensure train safety.
Tuan then attempted to upright his motorcycle, with its front wheel facing the tracks. A staff member intervened, urging him to leave the dangerous area. Afterward, the train passed safely.
Truong Cong Hoa, Chairman of Tho Phong commune People's Committee, confirmed that the incident caused no injuries, but the barrier arm was damaged and the motorcycle deformed.
According to Quang Ngai Traffic Police, Tuan crossed the railway when the prohibitory signal was active. Test results showed his blood alcohol content was 1,111 mg/liter of breath, far exceeding the highest legal limit, and he tested negative for drugs.
Police documented the incident, temporarily seizing the vehicle and driver's license for processing according to regulations.
Under current road traffic violation regulations, crossing a railway when the red light is on, or failing to obey the barrier's command or train warning signals, incurs a fine of 4-6 million VND and a license suspension of one to three months. Driving with an alcohol content exceeding the highest legal limit carries a fine of 6-8 million VND and a license suspension of 22-24 months.
