Truck falls into sinkhole on Hanoi road

A truck moving on Nguyen Trai street suddenly had its wheel sink into a hole, requiring excavator assistance to be pulled out, on the afternoon of 23/4.

Around 13h, a truck with a Hung Yen license plate was traveling on Nguyen Trai street towards Nga Tu So to Thanh Xuan underpass. When it reached in front of house number 108, Thanh Xuan ward, its rear wheel suddenly sank into a hole.

At the scene, the truck was heavily tilted to one side, with half of its right rear wheel deeply submerged and stuck, rendering it immobile.

Road Traffic Police Team number 7 reported that the incident caused no human casualties. This is not the first such incident on Nguyen Trai street; previously, on 9/4, a truck with a Hanoi license plate also fell into a hole near house number 72. The area where this sinkhole occurred, along with the recent one, had both been recently repaved by the construction unit after serving an inner-city flood prevention project.

Hanoi has experienced recurring sinkhole issues. In 2025, the city recorded at least 4 sinkhole incidents, with two incidents related to burst water pipes on Truong Chinh and Nguyen Chi Thanh streets.
