On 23/4, the National Assembly provided feedback on the draft Resolution outlining the proposed 2027 supervision program. Accordingly, at its 3rd session in 2027, the National Assembly will oversee the implementation of resolutions related to the Long Thanh International Airport Project for the 2015-2025 period.

Beyond Long Thanh, the National Assembly also plans to supervise the implementation of resolutions concerning the North-South high-speed railway project and the investment policy for the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway line.

Deputy Thach Phuoc Binh, Vice Head of the Vinh Long provincial delegation, emphasized the necessity of overseeing national key projects and strategic infrastructure, including the North-South high-speed railway, Long Thanh Airport, and ring road routes. He proposed a revised approach, suggesting that supervision should extend beyond construction progress or disbursement to evaluate overall effectiveness and socio-economic impact.

According to him, the supervision needs to clarify whether projects achieve their initial strategic objectives and if there is a risk of resource waste due to delays or cost overruns. Additionally, the supervisory delegation must clearly define the responsibilities of each individual and agency in implementing post-supervision conclusions, linking this with accountability and enforcement mechanisms to foster tangible improvements and strengthen public trust.

Most Venerable Thich Bao Nghiem, from the Hanoi delegation, also called for clear supervision criteria, emphasizing progress, capital utilization efficiency, and the responsibilities of involved parties. He recommended that the National Assembly monitor risks of delays, cost overruns, losses, and waste, and establish a post-supervision mechanism to ensure recommendations are rigorously implemented.

Long Thanh Airport is a national key project spanning approximately 5,000 ha, with a total investment of nearly 337,000 billion VND. By late 2025, some phase 1 components are expected to be complete, ready to welcome the first flights.

In early March, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam announced that its Chairman of the Board of Directors, Vu The Phiet, had been temporarily detained by the Ministry of Public Security for investigation into alleged violations of bidding regulations, causing particularly serious consequences, and accepting money to facilitate contractors in winning bids.

On 8/4, the Central Inspection Committee expelled Lai Xuan Thanh, former Party Committee Secretary and former Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Nguyen Tien Viet from the Party for violating Party regulations and State laws in performing their assigned duties, related to anti-corruption, anti-waste, and negative phenomena efforts. This agency also proposed that competent authorities consider disciplinary action against Vu The Phiet.

In addition to the aforementioned content, the draft Resolution states that the National Assembly will review Government reports on the supplementary evaluation of the 2026 socio-economic development plan and state budget implementation results, as well as the budget situation in the early months of 2027.

The National Assembly also plans to oversee the implementation of thrift and anti-waste measures in 2026; anti-corruption efforts; crime and law violation prevention; judgment enforcement; management and enforcement of temporary detention, pre-trial detention, and restrictions on movement; and environmental protection work.

The National Assembly will vote to approve the Resolution on the 2027 Supervision Program on 24/4.

Son Ha
