Around 4h, two grade 9 students from Hiep Duc commune went swimming near the Tranh River's ferry terminal. They unfortunately drowned and sank in a deep section of the river.

Witnessing the incident, bystanders raised an alarm and initiated a search. Local authorities quickly mobilized police, militia, and residents, who used boats to conduct search and rescue operations.
Upon being recovered ashore, despite immediate first aid efforts by local medical staff and experienced residents, the two victims did not survive. Their bodies were subsequently handed over to their families for funeral arrangements.
That same evening, local authority representatives visited the students' families to offer condolences, encouragement, and initial support.
Authorities have issued a warning regarding the increased risk of drowning in rivers and streams as hot weather approaches, particularly for teenage students.
The Tranh River is a significant tributary of the Thu Bon River, originating from Ngoc Linh mountain. It flows through the western mountainous region of TP Da Nang, featuring numerous winding sections before its confluence. The river is also home to several major hydropower projects.
