Driver fined for intentionally crossing railway against red light signal

A 50-year-old driver from Hung Yen has been fined 5 million VND and had his license suspended for two months after intentionally driving a truck across a railway crossing against a red light, damaging the barrier.

On 23/4, the Dien Chau Traffic Police Station, under the Nghe An Provincial Police's Traffic Police Department, announced the administrative penalty for the driver, citing Decree 168/2024. The incident occurred after 1 a.m. on 20/4, at an automatic railway crossing on the Cho Sy - My Ly railway section in Duc Chau commune. The driver intentionally drove a truck, registered in Hung Yen, across the tracks despite the active hazard warning system. Authorities stated that the driver's actions caused the D1 barrier to bend, creating a potential railway safety hazard.

Police urge the public to obey traffic lights, warning bells, and barrier systems when crossing railway tracks. Disregarding these warnings or intentionally violating regulations carries a high risk of severe accidents.

Nghe An province recorded 7 railway accidents in 2025, resulting in two fatalities and six injuries. The area has 171 road-rail intersections: 73 official railway crossings (23 manned, 37 with automatic warnings and barriers, and 13 with only warning signs) and 98 informal crossings.
