Rescue of nearly 300-kilogram tourist trapped in bathroom

Rescue forces spent nearly three hours to extract an overweight American tourist from a cramped bathroom after he fell and became stuck.

A 64-year-old American tourist was successfully rescued from an apartment bathroom in Da Nang on 22/4 after falling and becoming trapped due to his large physique. The Da Nang Fire Prevention, Fighting, and Rescue Police coordinated the unusual operation, which took nearly three hours.

The incident was reported to the Command Information Center around 8:30 a.m. on 22/4. The tourist, unable to extricate himself or move, required immediate assistance.

Upon arrival at the apartment on An Thuong 3 street, Ngu Hanh Son ward, the Fire Prevention, Fighting, and Rescue Police Team Area 3 deployed specialized personnel and equipment. Officials noted the victim was 1.8 meters tall and weighed nearly 300 kilograms.

The cramped bathroom space, combined with the tourist's significant weight, prevented conventional methods of movement. Rescue forces, coordinating with ward police and medical personnel, carefully planned and used specialized equipment to move the victim out, ensuring his health and safety throughout the process.

By 11:10 a.m. the same day, the tourist was moved to a safe location for medical staff to attend to him. His health is now stable.

An Thuong is an expatriate area in Da Nang, popular with foreign residents and tourists.
