National Route 51 'turns into a river' after heavy rain

Heavy rain lasting nearly an hour caused deep flooding on many roads in Dong Nai, turning National Route 51 into a river, with many drivers hesitant to cross, on the afternoon of 1/6.

Around 5 PM, heavy rain poured down on Long Binh, Long Hung, Tran Bien, and Phuoc Tan wards. Water from residential areas overflowed onto the streets. Trash clogged the drainage system, preventing it from coping and causing widespread flooding.

On Bui Van Hoa street near Gate 11 and National Route 51 through Long Hung ward, water levels submerged more than half of vehicle wheels. Many motorbikes stalled, forcing residents to push their vehicles through a flooded stretch over 100 m long.

Local residents reported this was the second time the area had flooded since the start of the rainy season. Water overflowing from residential areas on both sides of the road, combined with rising stream levels, hindered drainage.

The heavy rain coincided with workers leaving industrial zones, causing localized traffic congestion. On National Route 51, many drivers avoided a nearly 200 m section of deep water, leading to extensive traffic jams.

Anh Tu, a driver who passed through the area, stated that strong currents and deep water forced many vehicles to stop and wait for the water to recede. Some vehicles that attempted to cross stalled, and their riders fell due to the water's force, requiring assistance from residents.

In recent days, Dong Nai has experienced continuous heavy early-season rains, causing flooding on many central roads. Last week, Trang Bom district also reported hail.

In response to this situation, the People's Committee of Dong Nai City (UBND TP Dong Nai) directed relevant units to develop a plan for addressing flooding on National Route 51 and Bui Van Hoa street, with results due by 9/6.
