New hope school opens for orphans of Covid-19

Over 300 children orphaned by Covid-19 have moved into a new, fully equipped school designed to support their education and overall development.

Hope School, a boarding school for children orphaned by the Covid-19 pandemic, located in Ngu Hanh Son ward, Da Nang City, has been completed after nearly two years of construction.

The new boarding school, with its modern 5-story buildings, is near the circular FPT Complex, where FPT Corporation employees work in Da Nang.

The school enjoys a breezy location, about 300 meters from the Co Co River and 2 km from the beach. It is 11 km from downtown Da Nang and about 16 km from Hoi An's ancient town (Quang Nam).

The school also has a library, a multi-purpose hall, and expert accommodations. FPT Corporation invested 200 billion VND in the project, which broke ground in 9/2023.Photo: FPT

Da Nang City Party Secretary Nguyen Van Quang also rang the Hope Bell, marking a new chapter for the children in their new home.

At Hope School, the bell isn't just a wake-up call; it signals a new day filled with care, love, and gentle discipline.

The new school features a spacious area between two buildings for important events. The inauguration ceremony began with student performances.

The school designs extracurricular and talent development programs that encourage independence, creativity, and skill development, including performing arts.

Speaking at the inauguration, Da Nang City Party Secretary Nguyen Van Quang affirmed that Hope School is a deeply humanitarian project by FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh and his colleagues. Its mission is to nurture and educate those most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. This noble act embodies the tradition of mutual support and the goal of "leaving no one behind," providing spiritual support for children to overcome loss.

"With its modern facilities, the school is a shared home, empowering these children to live meaningful and fulfilling lives. Da Nang may not be their birthplace, but it's where they are loved and cared for," Quang said, believing that with FPT's management and comprehensive training expertise, Hope School will provide a safe, modern learning and living environment. This will help the children feel confident and happy while serving as a model for the education sector.

FPT Corporation Chairman Truong Gia Binh said Hope School transforms grief into strength. Over four years ago, when the Covid-19 pandemic took away the children's loved ones, the government, charities, FPT, and the Hope Foundation joined hands to welcome, protect, care for, and nurture them. The new school exemplifies this effort.

Binh thanked the organizations and individuals who contributed to building the well-equipped school. He also thanked the students, the "Hopers," for bringing joy, connection, and meaning to the teachers, FPT staff, and the community.

The FPT Chairman hopes that while the pain may not disappear, it can become a source of strength to overcome challenges, live ethically, love, and contribute to society. "Hope School is a place for you to share, support each other, turn loss into motivation, and give love back to the community," he added.

The school grounds display artwork and images telling the students' stories. The grounds are also planted with many trees, mainly fruit trees.

The school has dedicated a garden corner to Lohan pine trees, purchased with the exact 50 million VND donated by Mr. Ogawa Takeo (Japan). He promised to attend the school's inauguration but sadly passed away.

The school planted the trees as promised, added a sign bearing his name, and shares the story of keeping promises, love, and gratitude for good deeds.

Instead of the usual ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees and the Hopers launched paper airplanes into the sky at the Hope School inauguration.

According to a school representative, each plane carries a message, a dream growing each day towards a bright and open future for the children.

On 7/8, the day before the inauguration, FPT Corporation and the Hope Foundation gifted the Hope School students a library with over 10,000 books. Attendees included writer Binh Ca, author of "Quan khu Nam Dong," and Nguyen Manh Hung, Chairman of Thai Ha Books.

The Hope Library originated from the children's dreams and wishes, nurtured by writer Binh Ca and Miss Universe H’Hen Nie in the first "Hope Train Station" program. To realize this dream, the FPT Trade Union launched the "Hope Books" campaign and collected books nationwide.

Hope School has also partnered with various organizations to provide the children with access to quality training programs, fostering their physical, mental, academic, and soft skills development.
