The intermodal interchange, connecting national route 17B with national route 5 and the Hanoi - Hai Phong railway, is located in Phu Thai commune. This project, with a total investment of 1,860 billion dong, is managed by the Hai Phong Project Management Board for Agricultural and Rural Development Works.
Construction for the elevated roundabout interchange began in 12/2024. It features a main bridge and eight access ramps. The main roundabout bridge spans approximately 19 m in width. Four approach ramps connecting to national route 5 are about 7 m wide, while the four approach ramps linking to Kinh Mon and Kim Thanh are approximately 11 m wide.
The interchange features silver-gray railings, composed of parallel steel tubes. Smaller, softly curved, wavy barrier elements are installed between these vertical bars.
Concrete median barriers, painted white and red, support the railing system.

Transparent glass panels line the bridge walls (above the red and white concrete strip). These panels provide sound insulation, block dust and vehicle noise from affecting nearby residential areas, and maintain visibility, light, and urban aesthetics.

Below the bridge, a 1,3 km long, 8 m wide grade 4 plain-scale frontage road system has been put into use.

According to the investor, the project has completed 99% of its workload. Contractors are currently finishing median barriers, guardrails, and asphalt paving to restore the road surface on national route 5.

The approach road to the interchange from Hanoi to Hai Phong has completed the installation of directional gantry signs. Vehicles on national route 5 are now permitted to use the overpass. However, the ramps leading to Kinh Mon and Kim Thanh remain closed. The entire project is expected to be completed in June.
Once operational, the interchange will alleviate congestion, reduce accidents, and progressively enhance the transportation infrastructure on national route 5 and its intersecting routes.
