Nguyen Huy Dung appointed vice minister of culture, sports and tourism

Nguyen Huy Dung, a dedicated member of the Central Steering Committee for science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation development, was appointed vice minister of culture, sports and tourism by the Prime Minister from 21/5.

Nguyen Huy Dung, 43 years old, hails from Ha Noi and has roots in Ha Tinh. He holds a master’s degree in information technology. He was formerly a mathematics major at Hanoi National University of Education and a student at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Later, he received a full scholarship from the Vietnamese and Singaporean governments to study information technology at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.

In 2007, after graduating, he began working at the former Ministry of Information and Communications. He held various positions, including specialist in the Ministry Office, Head of the Secretariat and Synthesis Department, Deputy Director General, and then Director General of the Information Security Department. Later, he became Director General of the Informatics Department, which eventually became the National Digital Transformation Department.

In 11/2020, he was appointed vice minister of information and communications. By 2024, he was reassigned to serve as Chairman of Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee. More than a year later, when Bac Kan and Thai Nguyen merged to form the new Thai Nguyen province, he was reassigned as a dedicated member of the Central Steering Committee for science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation development.

At the 14th Party Congress in 1, Nguyen Huy Dung was elected an alternate member of the Party Central Committee. He was one of the 10 outstanding young Vietnamese faces to receive the Golden Globe award in 2010. In 2023, the World Economic Forum (WEF) selected him as a global young leader. He promoted many digital transformation programs, improving Vietnam's rankings in online public services, open data, and cyber safety and security.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is currently led by Minister Lam Thi Phuong Thanh. Following the reorganization, the ministry now has six vice ministers: Trinh Thi Thuy, Ta Quang Dong, Hoang Dao Cuong, Ho An Phong, Phan Tam, and Nguyen Huy Dung.
