Numerous homes devastated in Dak Lak's flood epicenter

Many level 4 houses in Hoa Thinh commune suffered collapsed walls and roofs, with household items and property swept away by a historic flood.

A section of My Dien hamlet reveals numerous houses with collapsed walls and missing roofs after the flood, among hundreds of homes affected in Hoa Thinh commune (formerly part of Tay Hoa district, Phu Yen province).

Hoa Thinh commune spans over 159 km2 and is home to over 30,000 residents. Its basin-like geography, surrounded by multiple rivers and lakes, rendered this area one of the deepest flooded locations in Dak Lak province, isolating it for several days.

Vo Thi Bong's level 4 house in Phu Huu hamlet, Hoa Thinh commune, was reduced to rubble following the flood. On the morning of 22/11, as the floodwaters receded, Bong returned home to salvage what she could.

Le Van Chanh's (40 years old) house in My Xuan 1 hamlet also had a wall swept away by the floodwaters, leaving many valuable items such as a fan, refrigerator, and washing machine damaged and soaked.

Next door, Nguyen Van Hung's (28 years old) house suffered a collapsed kitchen, burying much of his property. The floodwaters nearly reached the roof, forcing Hung and his wife and children to seek shelter at a neighbor's house.

Mud filled Nguyen Huu Tam's (left) motorbike repair shop, damaging over 30 motorbikes and various machines and equipment. Tam expressed concern, wondering how he would compensate his customers.

Similarly, Nguyen Thai Hoc's (41 years old) house had many household items submerged by the floodwaters. On the morning of 22/11, Hoc laid out 10 bags of rice to dry inside his house and in the yard. During the recent flood, he took his wife and three children to shelter on the rooftop. They brought a gas stove and some rice to cook and sustain themselves through the days.

A car was swept by floodwaters to the roadside in Hoa Thinh commune.

Late in the afternoon, many residents of Hoa Thinh commune ventured to the riverbanks and fields to search for belongings swept away by the flood.

Throughout the day, the relief point at Hoa Thinh commune's cultural center courtyard was bustling with residents arriving to receive food and supplies. During the days of heavy rain and flooding, dozens of relief teams converged here to provide aid.

Phu Thuan hamlet, Hoa Thinh commune, remained deeply flooded on the afternoon of 22/11. Many relief groups resorted to rowing boats and using canoes to deliver clothes and food to the residents.
