On June 12, the My Thuan Project Management Board submitted a pre-feasibility study report for the Duc Hoa - My An section of the Western North-South Expressway to the Ministry of Construction for appraisal.
The expressway will begin at Ho Chi Minh City's Belt Road 4, approximately 10 km from the Hoa Khanh interchange in Duc Hue commune, Tay Ninh. Its terminus will link to the My An - Cao Lanh expressway in Doc Binh Kieu commune, Dong Thap. Funded by the state budget, phase one of the project is designed with four lanes and a speed of 120 km/h.

The study indicates that most of the route will traverse Tay Ninh, with the remaining section in Dong Thap, including a segment that overlaps with the My An - Cao Lanh expressway.
The project's investor presented two construction scenarios: The first, a conventional embankment approach, would cost nearly 37 trillion VND, necessitate acquiring over 500 hectares of land, and impact 459 households. The second scenario, building the entire route as an elevated viaduct, would require an investment exceeding 45.4 trillion VND, affect 382 households, and reduce the land clearance area by about half.
Following an assessment of technical factors, potential for reduced community disruption, minimized impact on irrigation systems, and creation of development space along the route, the investor recommended the elevated viaduct option. If approved, construction is projected to begin in 2027 and conclude after three years.

Upon completion, the Duc Hoa - My An expressway will significantly improve connectivity among Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, Ho Chi Minh City, and the Mekong Delta provinces. The new route is also expected to ease congestion on national route N2, national route 1, and national route 62, all of which frequently experience heavy traffic during holiday periods.
This project follows an earlier proposal from Long An province to construct a new Duc Hoa - My An expressway instead of merely widening the existing national route N2. This approach aims to shorten travel distances and reduce the amount of land required for clearance.
