Around 11:00 on 16/8, a passenger bus carrying dozens of people traveling northbound on the Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway collided with the rear of a container truck ahead, near the Vinh - Nam Dan interchange.
The incident resulted in 20 passengers sustaining injuries and being taken to Nghe An Friendship General Hospital and Nghe An 115 General Hospital for emergency care. Other victims experienced shock, dizziness, and minor scrapes.

One victim, who was seated in row 5, recounted hearing a loud impact, which threw passengers forward. "Fortunately, I only suffered minor scrapes to my leg and shoulder", the person said.
The accident caused a protracted traffic jam spanning several kilometers in the northbound direction on the Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway, starting after 11:00. Traffic police, in coordination with other functional forces, diverted traffic and guided vehicles to National Route 1, while dispatching tow trucks to remove the damaged vehicles.
The Bai Vot - Ham Nghi Expressway, approximately 35 km long, had a total investment capital exceeding 7,600 billion VND. Construction commenced in early 2023, and it opened to traffic in April 2025. Phase one features four lanes, with a maximum speed of 90 km/h and a minimum speed of 60 km/h.
