The Vietnam Railway Corporation announced the cancellation of the daily passenger train service between Dong Hoi (Quang Binh) and Dong Ha (Quang Tri) on July 1st, after receiving notification from the Quang Tri Department of Construction on 30/6. The department reported that only 5 officials from 10 provincial agencies had registered for daily train travel, with 41 others interested in weekly trips. Dong Ha station's ticket office also confirmed just one ticket sold for the Dong Hoi route on 1/7.
The decision to halt the service was made due to significantly lower than expected passenger numbers.

The DH1/DH2 train service, originally proposed by Quang Tri province, was intended to facilitate daily commutes for public employees between the two provinces, operating Monday through Friday. The DH2 train was scheduled to depart Dong Ha station at 5:30 AM, arriving at Dong Hoi station at 7:25 AM. The DH1 train was to leave Dong Hoi station at 5:45 PM, returning to Dong Ha station at 7:45 PM.
One-way tickets were priced at 105,000 VND with a 25% discount offered on return journeys. The train consisted of 7 air-conditioned soft-seat carriages, a dining car, and a power car, providing onboard food and beverage services.
The distance between Dong Ha station and Dong Hoi station is over 100 km. The train service was initially planned to accommodate the transportation needs of approximately 1,300 public employees following the merger of Quang Tri and Quang Binh provinces, with the new province retaining the name Quang Tri and its administrative center located in Dong Hoi City.
