Phu Quoc deeply flooded after heavy rain

Prolonged heavy rain caused deep flooding on many roads in Phu Quoc, with some areas submerged by nearly half a meter, hindering traffic on the afternoon of 24/7.

Chi Yen Mai, who works in Phu Quoc, reported that rain began around 3 PM, submerging numerous roads like Nguyen Trung Truc, Hung Vuong, Cach Mang Thang Tam, Tran Phu, and the Suoi Lon area. Some sections reached nearly half a meter deep.

"This happens every year; Phu Quoc floods after just a few hours of heavy rain. The water is still rising, and the rain has not stopped," Mai stated.

The An Giang Provincial Hydro-Meteorological Station reported that Phu Quoc experienced heavy rainfall, concentrated in the afternoon and evening, due to the remnants of typhoon Noul. By 6 PM, measured rainfall was 121 mm at Cua Can, 90 mm in Duong Dong, and 57 mm in An Thoi.

According to the Standing Office of the Civil Defense Steering Committee of Phu Quoc Special Administrative Region, heavy rain in the Duong Dong and An Thoi areas caused localized flooding on many roads. As of the same afternoon, the unit had not recorded any casualties, and floodwaters had begun to recede.

Phu Quoc authorities directed relevant agencies to survey and clear drainage channels, accelerating water runoff to mitigate flooding during heavy rain.
