Police captain killed by detached container truck wheels

A police captain was killed while exercising when a pair of wheels detached from a container truck and struck him.

Yesterday afternoon, after work, Captain Pham Hong Vuong, 36, was exercising along Highway 19B when a pair of wheels detached from an oncoming container truck driven by Le Duc Loi, a resident of Quy Nhon Nam ward. The detachment was caused by a broken axle.

The wheels struck Vuong from behind, killing him instantly. They then continued to roll, damaging two parked motorbikes.

Vuong, a former teacher, leaves behind two children, the youngest of whom is 24 months old.
