Prime minister attends memorial and reburial ceremony for 28 fallen soldiers at road 9 cemetery

Prime minister Le Minh Hung attended the memorial service and farewell ceremony for 28 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed their lives in Laos, reburied at road 9 national martyrs' cemetery.

The memorial, commemoration, and reburial ceremony took place on the morning of 23/5, organized by the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung attended, along with representatives from central agencies, Military Region 4, leaders of Quang Tri province, and leaders of Laos' Savannakhet and Khammouane provinces.

The 28 remains were located, exhumed, and gathered by the Fallen Soldiers' Remains Gathering Teams 584 and 589, under the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command, during the 2025-2026 dry season in Savannakhet and Khammouane provinces. The identities of these fallen soldiers have not yet been determined, and biological samples have been collected for DNA identification.

Le Van Bao, Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, expressed gratitude to the Party Committees, authorities, and people of Savannakhet and Khammouane provinces for their support in the search and gathering of fallen soldiers' remains over many years.

Quang Tri provincial leaders also acknowledged the efforts of officers and soldiers from Teams 584 and 589 in searching for and gathering the remains of fallen soldiers in neighboring Laos.

Mr. Le Van Bao stated that the province will continue to effectively implement the "500-day and night campaign to accelerate the search, gathering, and identification of fallen soldiers' remains". This initiative contributes to well-implementing military family policies and promoting the national tradition of "drinking water, remembering the source" (a Vietnamese idiom meaning showing gratitude to those who came before).
