Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has been appointed Vice Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council. The council's members include National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security; and Le Hoai Trung, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The President, as commander-in-chief of the people's armed forces, chairs the National Defense and Security Council, as stipulated by the Constitution. The council comprises a chairman, a vice chairman, and members. The President submits the list of National Defense and Security Council members to the National Assembly for approval. The council operates collectively, making decisions by majority vote.
The National Defense and Security Council submits to the National Assembly for decision on the state of war. If the National Assembly cannot convene, the council submits to the National Assembly Standing Committee for decision. It mobilizes all national forces and capabilities to protect the Fatherland.
The National Defense and Security Council performs special tasks and powers assigned by the National Assembly in case of war. It also decides on the participation of the people's armed forces in activities contributing to regional and global peace.

Yesterday afternoon, the National Assembly passed a resolution electing Le Minh Hung as Prime Minister for the 2026-2031 term.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung is 56 years old, from Ha Tinh. He holds a Master's degree in Public Policy, a Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, and a Bachelor's degree in French. He has been a Politburo member for two terms (13th and 14th), a Secretary of the Party Central Committee for two terms (13th and 14th), a member of the Party Central Committee for three terms (12th to 14th), and a National Assembly delegate for two terms (15th and 16th).
