Hoang Minh Son appointed minister of education and training

Associate Professor Hoang Minh Son was approved by the National Assembly to serve as the Minister of Education and Training for the 2026-2031 term, following over one month as acting minister.

The National Assembly passed the resolution approving the appointment of new government members during its working session on the morning of 8/4.

Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son is 57 years old and hails from Hung Yen. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Control - Automation from Dresden University of Technology, Germany. He is also a member of the 14th Central Party Committee and a delegate to the 16th National Assembly.

Son began his career as a lecturer in the Electrical Engineering Faculty at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. He later held positions as Head of the Training Department and Vice Rector, overseeing science and technology, postgraduate training, international education, communications, and public relations. During his five years as Rector, he strongly advanced university autonomy, significantly enhancing the university's standing and rankings internationally.

From 2020 to 2025, as Deputy Minister of Education and Training, he advised on refining the university autonomy mechanism. He also implemented the revised Higher Education Law, developed standards for training programs and higher education institutions, and promoted growth in information technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, digital transformation, and innovation.

For the 2026-2031 term, the education sector must refine policies for high-quality human resource training, ensuring a close alignment with labor market demands. The primary focus is the synchronized implementation of laws and resolutions enacted by the National Assembly. These include: the Law on Teachers, the revised Education Law, the Higher Education Law, the Vocational Education Law, and policies on universal education and tuition fee exemption.

The Ministry of Education and Training is tasked with developing guiding decrees and circulars to translate these policies into practice. Concurrently, it will address pressing issues such as ensuring safe learning environments, reducing school violence, resolving localized teacher shortages and surpluses, and improving curricula and textbooks.

Another key objective is to foster an open, flexible education system that guarantees citizens' right to learn. This initiative aims to enhance training quality and boost employment opportunities for graduates.
