Chairing a meeting of the State Steering Committee for key national projects in the transport sector on 31/7, prime minister Pham Minh Chinh directed the Ministry of Finance to instruct Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and relevant units to review the overall progress of the Long Thanh airport project. This review aims to add personnel, equipment, and construction fronts to make up for lost time. He emphasized that ACV must strictly control quality and occupational safety, ensuring a rational and scientific construction process.
The Long Thanh airport project, spanning 5,000 hectares with a total investment of nearly 336,630 trillion VND, is a key national project. Although the National Assembly agreed to extend the completion deadline for the first phase to the end of 2026, the prime minister has repeatedly urged all parties involved to maximize efforts to expedite progress, overcome difficulties, and not accept any further delays.

The prime minister stated that by 19/8, with the commencement and inauguration of major projects, the country will have 2,476 km of expressways and 1,397 km of coastal roads. By the end of this year, there will be at least 3,000 km of expressways and potentially close to 2,000 km of coastal roads.
With five months remaining in the year and a significant workload ahead, the prime minister called on all units to work tirelessly, day and night, including weekends, to accelerate construction progress. The 500-day campaign to complete 3,000 km of expressways must continue.
The prime minister stressed that accelerating progress must go hand-in-hand with ensuring quality, technical and aesthetic standards, safety, and environmental hygiene. He emphasized the importance of landscaping and creating shared spaces within the projects, along with strengthening management, inspection, and supervision to enhance project quality and prevent negativity, corruption, waste, and occupational accidents.
Regarding the operation of expressways, the prime minister assigned the Ministry of Construction to coordinate with localities to accelerate site clearance, construction of rest stops, traffic monitoring systems, toll collection, and vehicle load control. This will ensure that projects are fully functional, high-quality, and aesthetically pleasing upon operation.
As the north-south and east-west expressway networks take shape, the Ministry of Construction and local authorities will review their connectivity to economic centers, railway stations, seaports, and airports.
