The Ca Mau – Dat Mui expressway spans over 80 km with four lanes and a total investment of nearly 59,000 billion dong. It connects via an approximately 18 km sea-crossing bridge to Hon Khoai island and the Hon Khoai dual-use general port. Upon completion, these projects will link the North-South axis to the nation's southernmost tip, fostering marine economic development alongside national defense and security.
To date, land clearance for the projects is largely complete, with over 1,600 households handing over more than 700 hectares. Contractors have mobilized over 2,000 staff, engineers, and workers, along with nearly 1,000 pieces of equipment and machinery. Disbursed capital has reached over 14,000 billion dong, with an estimated 15,000 billion dong by year-end.

Acknowledging the complex terrain, geology, and challenging construction conditions of the projects, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed investors and contractors to maximize the mobilization of personnel and equipment. He urged them to apply advanced construction methods and technology, deploying all components simultaneously on both land and sea. Construction must ensure quality, technical standards, and labor safety, avoiding project fragmentation, waste, negativity, or corruption.
The Ministry of National Defense is tasked with mobilizing maximum forces, vehicles, and machinery, employing modern construction methods. Leaders from construction units and local authorities must maintain a regular presence at the construction sites. This presence is crucial for promptly addressing difficulties and ensuring adequate living and working conditions for staff, soldiers, and workers.
Government leaders instructed investors and contractors to organize construction with "three shifts, four teams", working day and night, including holidays. This approach aims to meet or even exceed the schedule, while always prioritizing safety. Design units are assigned to add interchanges and rest stops, especially along the route to Hon Khoai island, to tap into tourism potential.
Regarding project materials, the Prime Minister assigned Can Tho City to ensure sand supply. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is to coordinate with An Giang to provide rock quarries for the Ministry of National Defense. The Ministry of Construction needs to accelerate the Hau Giang – Ca Mau expressway, aiming for completion before 31/1/2026. This will finalize the entire expressway route from Cao Bang to Ca Mau, eventually extending the connection to Dat Mui and Hon Khoai.
Earlier the same day, the Prime Minister and the working delegation visited and held discussions at the Tho Chu archipelago, Tho Chau special zone, An Giang province.
