Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made the request during a visit on July 21 to the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project in An Giang province. The nearly 45,000 billion VND project, launched in June 2023, comprises four sub-projects spanning An Giang, Can Tho, and terminating at Tran De port.
While acknowledging the efforts of investors and contractors in increasing shifts, personnel, and materials, the prime minister noted that progress has not met expectations and requires comprehensive review for acceleration.

"Triple shifts and work during holidays and Tet are needed to ensure the expressway is substantially complete by December 19, driving development in the Mekong Delta," the prime minister said, emphasizing that speed must not compromise quality and safety standards.
He urged contractors to mobilize additional on-site personnel and collaborate with Military Region 9, armed forces, police, the Fatherland Front, and local authorities to expedite progress. He also encouraged them to promptly report any difficulties to the government for support.

The Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway begins at National Highway 91 in Chau Doc, An Giang province, and ends at Tran De port in Soc Trang province. The sections traversing An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang, and Soc Trang measure nearly 57 kilometers, almost 38 kilometers, about 37 kilometers, and over 56 kilometers, respectively.
The first phase involves constructing four lanes on a 17-meter-wide roadbed with a maximum speed of 100 km/h. The completed project will expand to six lanes on a roadbed exceeding 32 meters. Upon completion, the expressway will reduce travel times between Mekong Delta provinces and improve access to Tran De port. As of mid-July, the sub-projects have reached 35% to 52% completion.
