Quang Nam chairman retires early

Le Van Dung, chairman of the Quang Nam People's Committee, has taken early retirement to facilitate personnel changes ahead of the province's merger with Da Nang.

At the Quang Nam People's Council meeting on 24/6, council chairman Nguyen Duc Dung announced that Le Van Dung's request for early retirement, 3 years and 6 months before his official retirement date, had been approved by the central government. Dung will officially retire on 1/7.

Le Trung Chinh, chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, also took early retirement, 6 years ahead of schedule, in anticipation of the merger. His request was approved by the central government and the Da Nang City Party Committee's Standing Board.

The newly merged city of Da Nang (combining Quang Nam and Da Nang) will officially begin operations on 1/7/2025.

According to Nguyen Duc Dung, during his tenure, Le Van Dung demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility and dedication to his work. He maintained unity within the People's Committee and contributed significantly to the province's development.

"As head of the People's Committee, Dung collaborated closely with the People's Council to enact breakthrough policies and address challenges, promoting socioeconomic development," Nguyen Duc Dung said.

Speaking at the final meeting of the Quang Nam People's Council before the merger, Le Van Dung expressed his gratitude to the provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, various agencies, voters, the business community, and the people for their support during his nearly 40 years of service. "After retirement, I will continue to cultivate my moral character, fulfill my responsibilities as a party member in my community, and contribute to the development of my homeland and the new Da Nang City," he stated.

Born in 1966 in Que Binh commune, Hiep Duc district, Quang Nam province, Le Van Dung holds a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics. He has held various positions, including secretary of the Hiep Duc District Party Committee, head of the provincial Party Committee Office, and head of the provincial Party Committee's Organization Board. In 4/2019, he was elected permanent deputy secretary of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee. In 7/2021, he was elected to the 15th National Assembly and appointed head of the provincial National Assembly delegation. On 21/6/2024, he was elected chairman of the Quang Nam People's Committee.
