Quang Ngai chairman Nguyen Hoang Giang appointed deputy head of central policy and strategy committee

Nguyen Hoang Giang, deputy secretary of the provincial party committee and chairman of the Quang Ngai provincial people's committee, has been appointed by the politburo as deputy head of the central policy and strategy committee.

Permanent secretary of the secretariat Tran Cam Tu presented the appointment decision to Nguyen Hoang Giang on the morning of 23/7. Giang assumes his new role after serving two years as chairman of the Quang Ngai provincial people's committee.

Nguyen Hoang Giang is 55 years old and hails from Hai Phong. He holds a doctor of economics degree and is a member of the 14th Central Party Committee.

Giang began his career in Hai Phong's industry and trade sector, holding positions such as deputy director of the Department of Trade and deputy director of the Department of Industry and Trade. He then moved to Hanoi, serving as director of economy at the Central Party Office, and later as director and secretary to a politburo member and chairman of the Central Inspection Committee.

In 4/2014, he was transferred to serve as deputy chairman of the former Thai Binh provincial people's committee, where he worked for 6 years. He was then appointed deputy minister of science and technology in mid-2020.

In 7/2024, after 4 years as deputy minister of science and technology, the secretariat assigned him to be deputy secretary of the Quang Ngai provincial party committee. He was subsequently elected chairman of the provincial people's committee. Following the merger of Quang Ngai and Kon Tum in 7/2025, he continued to serve as deputy secretary of the provincial party committee and chairman of the new Quang Ngai provincial people's committee. At the 14th Party Congress in January, he was elected to the Central Party Committee for the first time.

The Central Policy and Strategy Committee serves as an advisory body to the Central Party Committee, and directly to the politburo and the secretariat, on socio-economic development. Its responsibilities include guiding the development and improvement of economic institutions, as well as formulating major policies, strategies, and solutions for socio-economic progress.

The current head of the Central Policy and Strategy Committee is Nguyen Thanh Nghi. With Nguyen Hoang Giang's appointment, the committee now has 11 deputy heads: Thai Thanh Quy (permanent), Nguyen Kim Son, Nguyen Sy Hiep, Nguyen Hoang Giang, Nguyen Duy Hung, Nguyen The Manh, Nguyen Duc Hien, Nguyen Duc Trung, Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Tran Hong Thai (who also serves as president of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), and Le Van Loi (who also serves as president of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences).
