Rach Mieu 2 Bridge completed five months ahead of schedule

The bridge over the Tien River connecting Dong Thap and Vinh Long, finished five months early, will benefit not only the local economies but also the entire Mekong Delta region.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha made this statement during an inspection of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project on the afternoon of 7/8, just before the project's opening.

The deputy prime minister thanked the construction units and the two provinces for their efforts in completing the project months ahead of schedule. The bridge will facilitate transportation, trade, and economic cooperation between the localities and the entire region, benefiting residents.

After over three years of construction, the entire 17.6 km Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project is 100% complete, including the relocation of technical infrastructure. The total project value is about 3,269 billion VND, exceeding 99% of the plan and ahead of the initial schedule. The roadway is essentially finished, all six bridges along the route are complete, and traffic signs are currently being installed.

Functional units are scheduled to meet on 12/8 to review the project acceptance inspection. On 19/8, the construction unit will hand over the bridge to Dong Thap and Vinh Long provinces for inauguration and operation.

The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge spans the Tien River, connecting Vinh Long and Dong Thap, approximately 4 km upstream from the existing Rach Mieu Bridge. The project is over 17 km long. It begins at the Dong Tam intersection (the junction of National Highway 1 and Provincial Road 870) in Chau Thanh district, formerly Tien Giang province; and ends at National Highway 60 in Ben Tre city, formerly Ben Tre province, nearly one km from the Ham Luong Bridge.

The project, with a total investment of over 6,800 billion VND, commenced in 3/2022 and was initially slated for completion in early 2026. However, after an inspection, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested that the project be completed ahead of schedule and opened to traffic in time for National Day.
