Residential area in Lam Dong submerged

Despite clearing skies, floodwaters recede slowly, leaving many homes in Ham Thang ward (formerly Binh Thuan province) nearly submerged to their rooftops.

On the morning of 5/12, hundreds of homes in Ham Thang ward were submerged in floodwaters. This area is just one bridge away from Phan Thiet.

Ham Thang ward, spanning 44,90 square kilometers, was formed by merging Xuan An ward, Phu Long town, and Ham Thang commune (formerly Ham Thuan Bac district, Binh Thuan, now Lam Dong). Located downstream of the Song Quao irrigation reservoir, the area has been heavily flooded for the past two days due to heavy rain, high tides, and reservoir discharge.

Many homes along the Cai River were isolated, with residents unable to return. According to locals, drawing on experience from the 30/10 flood, the entire hamlet evacuated early this time. Mr. The, a resident of Ham Thang ward, stated, "The water started rising at 8h30, and by noon today it had flooded homes. Everyone evacuated then." Last night, as floodwaters rose, many residents went online to appeal for help from rescue teams.

Floodwaters submerged homes along the Cai River.

Water nearly submerged rooftops and knocked down doors in Ham Thang ward. By noon today, the water had receded but very slowly.

Residents used motorboats to move to safer areas.

Water covered the area in front of a rental complex in Ham Thang ward. Some residents remained to protect their property.

Residents in Ben Loi residential area received charitable lunch. With homes flooded for two days, many families could not cook.

More than 300 meters of National Route 1, passing over Ben Loi bridge, were submerged by nearly one meter. Traffic police closed the road, restricting vehicle access.

A gas station along the national route was submerged by nearly half a meter, forcing its temporary closure.

Many homes and dragon fruit gardens in Ham Thang were surrounded by floodwaters.

Yesterday, prolonged rain caused flooding and landslides in many areas of Lam Dong, resulting in one fatality. Across the province, nearly 3.300 homes were flooded; 24 fishing boats sank, and 32 boats with broken anchors drifted out to sea before being recovered. Additionally, more than 3.300 hectares of agricultural land were submerged, and over 4.000 livestock and poultry died.

Authorities recorded more than 16 landslide sites and four damaged bridges and culverts. Many roads and highways were flooded and cut off, including Mimosa, Prenn, D'ran, and Gia Bac passes.
