Phu Quoc launches two projects with 12,000 rooms, apartments for APEC 2027

Two urban projects comprising approximately 12,000 rooms and apartments, with a total investment of 69,550 billion VND, are being built in Phu Quoc to enhance accommodation capacity and event infrastructure for APEC.

On 28/1, the People's Committee of Phu Quoc Special Administrative-Economic Unit, in coordination with Sun Group, broke ground on the Bai Dat Do mixed-use urban area and the Nui Ong Quan ecological tourism urban area. These are among 21 infrastructure projects supporting the APEC 2027 High-Level Week.

The two projects are expected to add approximately 12,000 rooms and service apartments, along with commercial centers. This aims to meet accommodation and service demands for high-level foreign affairs activities, while also creating new urban-tourism spaces for Phu Quoc.

The Bai Dat Do mixed-use urban area spans over 88 hectares, with an investment of approximately 64,000 billion VND. It is planned along the APEC boulevard, featuring high-rise hotel complexes, commercial centers, a coastal square, and public spaces. This project is expected to provide nearly 6,500 accommodation rooms, located adjacent to the APEC Convention and Exhibition Center.

According to the developer, numerous international hotel brands will operate these accommodation complexes, serving conference attendees, high-end tourists, and official delegations.

Meanwhile, the Nui Ong Quan ecological tourism mixed-use urban area covers over 21 hectares, with a total investment of approximately 5,550 billion VND. It is being developed as an ecological urban model, integrating accommodation, services, and commerce. This project is expected to provide approximately 5,200 service apartments.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that APEC 2027 is a particularly important foreign affairs event, with infrastructure being a key factor for its success. Currently, Phu Quoc is implementing 21 projects for the conference, involving various ministries, agencies, localities, and businesses.

The Prime Minister urged that the projects ensure progress, quality, labor safety, and environmental protection. He also called for a focus on green development, digitalization, smart management, and harmonizing interests among the State, businesses, and the public.

According to the An Giang Provincial People's Committee, the 21 projects for APEC 2027 are divided into two groups: public investment and public-private partnership (PPP) and business investment. The public investment group comprises 10 projects, with one project having selected an investor and 9 projects having selected construction contractors. The remaining group of 11 PPP and business investment projects has completed investor selection.

The 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, themed "Connect, build inclusive and resilient economies," marks a significant milestone, showcasing Vietnam's position in the region. This presents an opportunity for Phu Quoc to become a global hub for economic, social cooperation, and trade.
