Riverside road past historic home nears completion after 5 years

A 5.2 km riverside road along the Dong Nai River, curving around a century-old house, is nearing completion and set to open by the end of 2025.

After nearly 5 years of construction, the 5.2 km riverside road along the Dong Nai River, passing through Buu Long ward, former Bien Hoa city (now Tran Bien ward), is in its final stages of construction, expected to be completed later this year.

Many sections of the project are already finished, featuring a two-way road with a median strip. Sidewalks, trees, and lighting have also been installed.

The Dong Nai riverside road is designed to be 34 m wide, with three lanes in each direction. Each side has a 5 m sidewalk, and the road surface is 24 m wide, excluding the park and river embankment.

Construction began in late 2020, with an initial completion date of 2023. However, the project was delayed due to Covid-19, land acquisition challenges, and design changes to preserve a century-old house located on the route.

The new design curves the road around the historic house to avoid impacting the structure.

Many residents whose homes were acquired for the project have renovated or rebuilt along the new road. According to Dong Nai Province People's Committee leaders, the road will improve the riverside area, promoting harmonious and sustainable urban development.

The riverside park features landscaping, paved sidewalks, and a half-meter high steel fence along the embankment.

Due to varying elevations within the park, retaining walls have been built to prevent erosion.

In addition to the riverside road, Dong Nai has also completed a river embankment project costing over 600 billion VND.

The riverside road includes a ferry terminal at the site of the existing ferry crossing, facilitating travel between Dong Nai Province and Ho Chi Minh City until a bridge is built.

According to Tran Bien Ward People's Committee, the 5.2 km Dong Nai riverside road project required the acquisition of over 17 ha of land from 557 cases. Over 99% of the land has been acquired and handed over to the investor, and resettlement plans have been approved for 304 cases.

After this project's completion, Dong Nai will extend the riverside road through Tan Trieu ward to connect communes in the former Vinh Cuu district and further develop the urban areas along the river bordering Ho Chi Minh City.
