Russian tourist dies, rockfall suspected from construction vehicle

A rock, believed to have fallen from a construction vehicle on Dai Ninh Pass, pierced a 16-seat car carrying foreign passengers, killing a 57-year-old Russian and severely injuring another on the morning of 8/12.

A tourist car from Binh Thuan was transporting a group of international tourists from Mui Ne to Da Lat. As the vehicle traversed the section through Phan Son commune on Dai Ninh Pass, along National Highway 28, a rock suddenly crashed onto its roof.

The 57-year-old Russian tourist, seated in the front of the car, died at the scene. Another individual sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Binh Thuan General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Upon receiving the report, local police conducted a search along the route but could not locate the suspected vehicle, which had already departed. Authorities are currently reviewing camera footage to identify the vehicle and its driver.

National Highway 28B, which connects Binh Thuan and Lam Dong, is undergoing upgrade construction. The pass experiences heavy traffic from vehicles transporting construction materials, creating significant safety hazards.
