Scene of train colliding with tractor-trailer, splitting it in half in Quang Ngai

A tractor-trailer overturned, split in two, and the SE8 train locomotive was dented after a collision in Ve Giang commune on the evening of 6/3, injuring two drivers.

On the evening of 6/3, a train collided with a tractor-trailer at a railway crossing in Ve Giang commune, Quang Ngai, severely damaging the truck and injuring both drivers. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to overturn and split in two, while the SE8 train locomotive sustained significant dents.

The incident occurred around 19h when a male driver, approximately 45 years old, was operating a tractor-trailer from Cho Tre (former Nghia Phuong commune) towards former Cho Chua town. As the vehicle approached the railway intersection in Ve Giang commune, it moved onto the tracks just as the barrier lowered, blocking its path. The driver exited the truck to attempt to lift the barrier. Upon returning to the cabin to maneuver the vehicle, the SE8 train, traveling on the North-South line, approached and struck the front of the truck head-on, causing the tractor and trailer to separate.

The collision severely damaged the tractor-trailer; the trailer overturned and separated from the tractor.

The cabin roof, windows, and machinery in the tractor-trailer's body were shattered and scattered after the accident.

Both the truck driver and train operator were injured and taken to the emergency room.

The SE8 train locomotive was deformed after the impact. The train is currently stopped to allow for scene processing.

Railway authorities and Quang Ngai Provincial Police were present at the scene to examine and collect information for the investigation into the cause.

This incident follows another serious railway accident just over one week prior. On the evening of 25/2, passenger train SE3, also operating on the North-South line, collided with a truck that was stuck on a level crossing while passing through Ngoc Hoi commune (Ha Noi City). That impact dragged the truck about 100 m, resulting in the death of the truck driver and injuries to one other person, along with severe damage to both the train locomotive and the truck.
