Scooter plunges into Hanoi sinkhole

A scooter's front wheel became trapped in a sinkhole on Truong Chinh Street, injuring the rider on the evening of 26/7.

Around 9 pm, a man was riding his scooter along Truong Chinh Street towards Nga Tu So in the former Dong Da district. As he approached the Ton That Tung - Truong Chinh intersection, the front wheel of his scooter plunged into a deep hole, throwing him onto the road.

When the scooter was pulled out, the hole was revealed to be approximately 1 meter deep and 1 meter in diameter, with a funnel-like shape. Locals reported noticing a slight dip in the road earlier that afternoon.

Traffic Police Team 3 of the Hanoi Police Department dispatched officers to cordon off the sinkhole in collaboration with local police and reported the incident to find a solution.

The cause of the sinkhole is under investigation. Hanoi has experienced similar sinkholes after periods of heavy rain, posing a danger to road users. In July 2022, a sinkhole approximately 1 meter deep appeared at the Tran Huu Tho - Nguyen Phan Chanh intersection.
