Tran Quang Khai street (Hoan Kiem ward) was flooded after 20 minutes of heavy rainfall.
The storm followed three days of intense heat in northern Vietnam, with temperatures reaching 35-37 degrees Celsius.
Mai Van Khiem, director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, stated the storms in northern Vietnam were not related to Typhoon Wipha in the East Sea but were caused by wind convergence along a low-pressure trough passing through the northern region.
The meteorological agency forecasts thunderstorms in the mountainous and midland areas of northern Vietnam with rainfall totals between 15 and 30 mm, with some areas exceeding 70 mm.
