This solution, implemented on 26/7, is a collaboration between Ho Chi Minh City Police, the National Population Database Center, the C06 Department (Ministry of Public Security), and Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV). It aims to promote digitalization in the aviation sector and marks the first time biometric technology has been used at Tan Son Nhat airport's T3 terminal.

Passengers have two options for using the service. The first, for iOS users, involves online check-in via the VNeID app on their phones and identity verification. The second option is to check in directly at Vietnam Airlines counters (56 to 77) at T3 terminal, then proceed to the security checkpoint for automated facial recognition. If there's a match, the gate opens automatically, allowing passengers to board without presenting any documents.
Facial recognition takes only a few seconds, and the entire process saves passengers 10-15 minutes compared to traditional methods. However, the airport still recommends carrying identification as a backup in case of technical issues.
Lieutenant Colonel Ho Duc Thien, deputy head of the Social Order Administrative Management Police Department (PC06) of Ho Chi Minh City Police, stated that the solution not only benefits passengers but also enhances management efficiency and ensures aviation security and safety.
"With the VNeID app installed on their mobile devices, passengers can check in online, verify their identity, pass through security, and board without carrying multiple documents," Thien said. He added that electronic identification and biometric technology increase accuracy in information verification, reduce the risk of using fake documents, and allow for stricter passenger control.

From now until 15/8, Ho Chi Minh City Police will continue to direct specialized units to coordinate with airport security and airlines to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the new system. Every day, the city police will station at least two officers at T3 terminal to guide passengers on using VNeID for check-in and security procedures.
T3 Tan Son Nhat is the country's largest domestic terminal. It opened on 30/4 and has a capacity of 20 million passengers annually. Currently, the new terminal serves Vietnam Airlines domestic flights.
In addition to Tan Son Nhat, this VNeID-based biometric technology has been implemented at Noi Bai and Da Nang airports. This solution is part of a comprehensive digitalization roadmap for air transport operations, aiming to create a smart, paperless airport ecosystem.
