Tanker truck kills woman at Cong Truong Me Linh roundabout

A woman was killed on the afternoon of 16/7 when a tanker truck hit her motorbike while turning at the Cong Truong Me Linh roundabout in Saigon ward.

Around 4 PM, a tanker truck carrying waste for the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Drainage Company was traveling through the Cong Truong Me Linh roundabout onto Ton Duc Thang Street, heading towards Khanh Hoi Bridge. While turning, the truck collided with a motorbike driven by a woman around 40 years old. The victim fell and was run over by the truck, resulting in her death.

At the scene, the damaged motorbike lay in front of the tanker truck. Belongings and a helmet were scattered on the road. Traffic police closed off the scene to investigate the cause of the accident. The incident caused significant traffic congestion.

A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Drainage Company stated that the accident occurred while the tanker truck was en route to perform maintenance and collect waste from the sewers. The company is investigating the incident and developing a plan to support the victim's family.

The Cong Truong Me Linh roundabout is located on the banks of the Saigon River, at the intersection of six streets: Ton Duc Thang, Hai Ba Trung, Thi Sach, Ngo Duc Ke, Phan Van Dat, and Ho Huan Nghiep. This area, located just over a kilometer from Ben Thanh Market, experiences heavy traffic and frequent congestion. Motorbikes passing through the roundabout close to turning trucks are at risk of entering blind spots, increasing the likelihood of accidents.
