Tons of steel fall from container, hitting a couple on a motorbike

A container truck carrying steel from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai had its cargo spill while descending Thu Bien bridge, striking a couple on a motorbike traveling in the opposite direction and causing them to fall onto the road.

Around 11:30 on 3/12, a container truck was traveling on DT 768 road in Tan An commune, Vinh Cuu district. As it rounded a curve after Thu Bien bridge, hundreds of steel bars unexpectedly slid off the truck and fell onto the road.

A couple on a motorbike traveling in the opposite direction could not avoid the falling steel, were struck, and collapsed.

"The container was carrying steel mesh bars, and they fell off when it took the curve", said Mr. Lam, a witness. Several vehicles behind managed to brake in time, avoiding collision.

At the scene, steel was scattered haphazardly, covering almost the entire road. The victims sustained serious injuries, with one person suffering a broken leg. An ambulance from a nearby hospital transported them.

Authorities blocked the area, redirected traffic, and are investigating the incident.
