Around 6:20 p.m., a Ninh Binh-registered tractor-trailer traveling northbound experienced a fire in the front of the vehicle as it passed through Minh Chau commune. The driver immediately pulled the vehicle into the emergency lane and attempted to extinguish the fire with a mini fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful.
The flames quickly spread, engulfing the entire vehicle and sending thick black smoke into the air. The Nghe An Provincial Police Fire Prevention, Fighting, and Rescue Department dispatched fire trucks and personnel to the scene. After more than 30 minutes, the blaze was brought under control, but the tractor-trailer was completely destroyed.
The incident prevented vehicles from passing, causing traffic congestion on the expressway for over an hour. The expressway management unit coordinated with authorities to divert traffic and guide vehicles off the expressway at the Dien Cat interchange.
By over 8 p.m., the scene was cleared, and traffic on the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway returned to normal.
The Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway is 49,3 km long, passing through Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, and has been fully operational since 29/6. Its giai doan 1 features four lanes, a roadbed 17 m wide, with a maximum speed of 90 km/h and a minimum of 60 km/h.
