Traffic police advise drivers to reduce speed on Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway

Following multiple incidents of vehicles crashing into the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway expansion site, the Traffic Police Department advises drivers to reduce speed and maintain a safe distance.

According to the Traffic Police Department (Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security), the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway (Km123 - Km244 section) in Lao Cai province is currently undergoing lane expansion, which has narrowed the carriageway. Drivers must adhere to the correct speed, maintain a safe distance, observe vehicles ahead carefully, and absolutely avoid changing lanes.

The expanded section of the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway currently has two lanes (one lane in each direction), no solid median barrier, and an emergency stopping lane. Vehicle speed has been reduced to 50 km/h, down from 80 km/h previously.

According to the management unit, despite the installation of speed limit signs and construction zone warnings, many vehicles have continued to travel quickly, causing accidents.

Most recently, on 3/3, a pickup truck traveling on the expressway towards Noi Bai, upon reaching Chau Que commune, Lao Cai province, collided with the construction site's protective corrugated iron barrier. It then crashed into the road expansion area. The vehicle overturned and was severely damaged. The driver was impaled by a steel bar from the construction barrier and died at the scene.

On the same day, 3/3, in Bao Ha commune, Lao Cai province, about 10 km from the aforementioned accident site towards Noi Bai, a four-seat car crashed into a protective corrugated iron barrier. A steel bar penetrated the windshield, causing minor injuries to the occupant.

Previously, on 26/2, a car collided with a roadside corrugated iron barrier, veering into the expansion area and causing a steel bar from the barrier to pierce one person's chest.

In the event of a vehicle breakdown, drivers should move their vehicle to the emergency stopping lane, activate hazard warning lights, place a warning object at least 150 m behind the vehicle, and call 19008099 for assistance.
