Traffic Police Detect Over 4,000 Drivers Showing Signs of Working Overtime

The Traffic Police Department found over 4,000 commercial transport drivers showing signs of violating working hours through the journey monitoring system.

The Traffic Police Department (Cuc CSGT), under the Ministry of Public Security, identifies driver fatigue and distraction from exceeding regulated working hours as a leading cause of traffic accidents involving commercial vehicles, particularly at night. Consequently, the department has instructed its operational units to use real-time data from the command center to review suspicious vehicles violating driving hour regulations for immediate verification and enforcement, even overnight.

From 0h to 7h on 23/7, the Data, Management, Monitoring, Violation Processing, and Traffic Operations Center, part of the Traffic Police Department, detected over 4,000 cases showing signs of drivers operating vehicles beyond regulated working hours.

Following this, units of the Traffic Police Department conducted a comprehensive review of 168 suspicious commercial vehicles, including passenger buses and trucks. A random inspection of 18 vehicles (comprising 8 passenger buses, 6 trucks, and 4 tractor-trailers) traveling on expressways revealed 4 violations. Specifically, two drivers were operating vehicles beyond the regulated working hours. The other two violations involved vehicles equipped with journey monitoring devices that were not operational, and drivers failing to use their driver identification cards.

In these cases, in addition to fining the drivers, police also issued citations to the vehicle owners, which are businesses, for entrusting vehicles to employees who then committed violations.

The Traffic Police Department stated it is verifying the remaining cases and will send violation notices to numerous businesses and commercial transport drivers.

According to the Traffic Police Department, data from journey monitoring systems and onboard cameras is regularly utilized to proactively detect, prevent, and promptly address violations by drivers and vehicles. This approach aims to ensure passenger safety, protect goods, minimize traffic accidents, and enhance the effectiveness of state management.

Previously, on 21/7, the Traffic Police Department announced a nationwide inspection of business conditions for passenger transport companies operating oto, following several serious accidents. The agency is also collaborating on a review of technical safety regulations for sleeper buses, focusing on emergency escape systems and operating speeds. Any loopholes in the management of transport business activities will be reviewed for timely rectification.

"The lives and property of passengers cannot be left solely to drivers and vehicle owners," stated the Traffic Police Department.
