Last night, Expressway Traffic Patrol and Control Team No. 6 (Team 6 - Ministry of Public Security) spotted a 40-foot container truck traveling on the expressway from Dong Nai towards Ho Chi Minh City exhibiting suspicious behavior and signaled the driver to stop.
The driver refused to comply and sped away. The traffic police immediately pursued the vehicle, using their loudspeaker to order the driver to stop. After a 3 km chase, the police stopped the vehicle and escorted the driver to the station. The driver admitted to using drugs at a restaurant in Xuan Loc commune, Dong Nai province before entering the expressway.
Police fined the driver 35 million VND for driving under the influence of drugs, according to Decree 168/2024. The driver's license was also suspended for 23 months.
Recently, authorities have detected numerous cases of drivers using drugs. On 23/7, traffic police stopped a 28-year-old driver under the influence of drugs who was swerving and tailgating other vehicles on the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway.
From 25/7 to 25/8, the Traffic Police Department is conducting nationwide inspections of vehicles. Task forces are equipped with weapons, support tools, vehicles, and specialized technical equipment to inspect, detect, and handle violations. In cases where vehicles fail to stop for inspection, the traffic police will identify and issue fines retroactively.
