Truck falls 200 meters into ravine on Vi O Lac Pass

A truck carrying three people unexpectedly plunged approximately 200 meters into a ravine on national route 24 over Vi O Lac Pass on the afternoon of 7/3, killing one and injuring two.

At approximately 2 p.m., a 28-year-old male driver from Dak Rve commune, formerly Kon Tum province, was operating a truck. He was transporting two women, aged 45 and 48, both from Tra Cau ward. The vehicle was traveling on national route 24, heading from Mang Den towards eastern Quang Ngai.

While traversing the Vi O Lac Pass section through Kon Plong commune, the truck unexpectedly lost control and veered off the road, plummeting about 200 meters into a deep ravine. The incident resulted in injuries to the driver and the 45-year-old woman, and the 48-year-old woman died at the scene.

The Quang Ngai Provincial Police's Fire Prevention, Fighting, and Rescue Police Department dispatched personnel to the scene. Rescuers rappelled into the deep ravine to reach the truck and its occupants.

The truck was severely damaged and deformed after its fall. Emergency services transported the two injured individuals for medical treatment. Police, local militia, and residents worked together to carry the deceased victim's body out of the ravine using a hammock. By approximately 4:10 p.m., the body was transferred to local authorities and the family for funeral arrangements. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.

Vi O Lac Pass, spanning approximately 50 km, is situated on national route 24, bordering Kon Plong and Ba To communes in Quang Ngai province. The pass reaches an elevation of about 1,300 meters above sea level, characterized by numerous sharp turns and challenging terrain.
