Two brothers electrocuted while fishing in Ho Chi Minh City

Two brothers were found dead next to an irrigation ditch in Phuoc Long Ward after using electricity to fish on 21/9.

Around 11 a.m., residents of a neighborhood on Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Phuoc Long Ward, discovered two men (50 and 43 years old) lying motionless near an irrigation ditch. An electrical wire and a battery were found nearby. Upon closer inspection, both men were confirmed dead.

According to residents, the brothers had run an electrical wire from their nearby house to electrofish in the ditch. They often caught fish for personal consumption and to sell.

Authorities investigated the scene. According to police, the initial cause of death was electrocution.

Electrofishing is a destructive fishing method. Electricity from a battery passes through a booster, creating a high-voltage current. This current is discharged into the water, electrocuting fish within a one-meter radius. This fishing method is prohibited.
